LIGHTHOUSE TOUR

What to expect:

Meeting at the LOWER car park of Corbière, enjoy a gentle meander along the causeway to understand a little about the fascinating history of the area, and learn about the geology, flora and fauna that surround you, not to mention the role that the area played during the WW2 occupation of the Island.

Called “The Herdsman of the Waves” by Victor Hugo, this area has been known as “the dreaded Corbière” by island mariners over the centuries.

Take a journey through history with your Jersey Uncovered Blue Badge Guide and learn about the construction of this historic monument to maritime safety over the past 150 years.  As you climb the cast iron staircase, admiring the highly polished brass handrail, you will come to understand the lives of the Lighthouse keepers of the past, see where they worked, and marvel at the 19th century instruments they used, still in place and gleaming, as if the keepers had stepped out of the room just a moment ago.

This 90 minute tour will open your eyes to our fascinating maritime history, its characters and its drama, and is for both visitors and locals alike.

The cost will be as follows:-

Public Tour - booked in advance for a maximum of six guests = £35 per person (includes £10 Ports of Jersey entry fee) .
