What to expect:
A St Clement Walking Tour with ancient monuments
Join Blue Badge Guide Kary Day on a light-hearted maritime adventure, to uncover mariner's mysteries, seafaring stories, hidden lighthouses, medieval pathways and ancient monuments.
Beginning at Le Hocq on the St Clement seashore discover the wonders of our protected Ramsar site, the oyster and muscle beds, and uncover the difference between the various rocks scattered around our shore.
Hear about the imposing Jersey Round Towers and Martello Towers, who built them and why.
From our wander along the beach at Le Hocq, we meander inland for a short way, through the lanes, and past part of the old Jersey Eastern Railway, to discover a lighthouse in a field; and retrace the steps of the gentry along La Rue de Seigneur.
Discover an 18th century signal box, which became a 19th century folly, and a 20th century guardhouse.
Admiring the views stretching across the bay from La Rocque to Noirmont Point, we unearth an ancient dolmen, hidden among the hilltop trees, before descending through the woodland path to join La Blinerie, and Samarès Lane, to uncover another portion of the old Eastern Railway route.
this circular walk is an easy to moderate 90 minute stroll with some hills, and gives you the opportunity to take in the sweeping sea views from ancient hilltop monuments.
